In response to the devastating flood from Hurricane Joaquin, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina took immediate action to support organizations that are providing flood relief assistance. Many South Carolina individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities suffered from the effects of the October flood. The Foundation is finalizing its grant funding for Phase One of the flood relief plan.
To date, we have supported 24 organizations, totaling more than $130,000, across the State that impact those affected by the flood.
A report on Phase One funding, areas served, and impact made will be released in the near future. The Foundation plans to move into Phase Two of Flood Relief support in the coming weeks which will focus more on repairs of homes in poor neighborhoods and communities to help sustain families over the long run. The Foundation is working with other Funders, Community leaders, and Government to access the most strategic and appropriate priorities for funding in Phase Two.
Our plan has been to help those in immediate danger and need first (phase one), then look at long-range efforts to help people live safely and securely after the flood (phase two).
