In a series of presentations Sister Sandra will explore the following topics for personal and shared reflection:

  • What has happened to kindness in our world?
  • How can we recover the lost art of being kind?
  • Taking God’s side is taking the side of kindness

There will also be time for private reflection as well as small and/or large group sharing.

Sister Sandra Makowski is a Sister of St. Mary of Namur.  She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in religious studies, as well as her licentiate degree in canon law from the Catholic University of America.  She was appointed Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Charleston in 2010.

She is the author of a book entitled “ The Side of Kindness:  Recovering the Lost art of being kind” which was published in January of 2014.  Since the publication of this book she has given numerous seminars and retreats on the topic of kindness.  In her book, sometimes humorous and always thought-provoking, she reminds us that we can always choose the side of kindness, even in the smallest decisions of daily life.  Our conversation, tone of voice, and even the way we dress can be shaped by kindness, and together, those many small decisions can make a big difference in our broken and fragile world.

A book-signing will take place and her book will be available for purchase ( $18.00).
