Sustaining Our Catholic Identity
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina exhibits an interest in supporting congregations of women religious (Catholic nuns) in their efforts with the poor and underserved members of society. In conjunction with the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, the Collaboration for Ministry Initiative is designed to assist the religious communities in South Carolina and the challenges they face. These challenges include:
-
The aging and steady decline in the number of religious available to carry on the ministries is strongly impacting these works.
-
Resources are decreasing as religious seek to sustain critically needed ministries; maximize available means to achieve the greatest good for others, individually and systemically; transition ministries to others appropriately and effectively; determine new ways to use their individual and collective resources; and effectively meet the needs of the times.
-
The congregations face decisions regarding their ministries that will significantly impact the populations they serve, now and in the future.
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently released a statewide report on Women Religious and their ministires in South Carolina. To review this report, click here.
