Foundation Hosts Responsive Grant Luncheon and Awards $611,048 in Responsive Grants

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awarded eight Responsive Grants totaling $611,048 to non-profit and faith-based organizations at a Responsive Grant Luncheon, designed to honor and recognize the 2008 Responsive Grant recipients, on September 24 at Saluda Shoals Park in Columbia.


Responsive Grants address the root causes of poverty using strategic methods that allow the Foundation to work closely with grantees and develop collaborative relationships by selectively offering focused technical assistance and more intentional monitoring through site visits. Responsive Grants are awarded once a year.

“These organizations are relentlessly working to address poverty in South Carolina through their programs and services,” said Kevin Hall, board president of the Foundation. “It is our hope that the funding from the Foundation will help strengthen and build their capacity to serve those in need.”

Learning Academy Workshops

The Foundation’s Learning Academy is accepting applications for its Partnerships and Sustainability and Grant Writing workshops, both in November.
 
Learn how effective partnerships can lead to your organization's sustainability in the Partnerships and Sustainability Workshop on Thursday, November 6. This workshop will use a variety of interactive techniques to help define partnerships and describe how to use them to sustain your organization’s programs. Due to its popularity and high demand, the Learning Academy will offer another Grant Writing Basics Workshop on Wednesday, November 19. This interactive workshop provides individuals with the tools and resources for grant writing. By the end of the session participants will understand basic grant writing terms and the grant writing process, find local funders, complete budgets and budget narratives, write outcome objectives and more. Foundation Announces $78,362 in Funding for Women Religious

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded nine Collaboration for Ministry (CMI) grants totaling $78,362 to programs led by women religious (Sisters) in South Carolina.

The Foundation recognizes the needs and challenges facing congregations of women religious in South Carolina. These CMI grants were established to support congregations of women religious in their efforts with the poor and underserved in South Carolina.

“These programs, organized by women religious, work daily to address poverty in South Carolina, and are invaluable to our community,” said Thomas C. Keith, executive director of the Foundation. “It is our hope that the funding from the Foundation will strengthen and ensure sustainability of these programs in order for them to continue to serve those in need.”

2007 Online Annual Report

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina's 2007 Annual Report is now available on the Foundation's Web site. In all, the Foundation funded 77 grants totaling over $2.2 million.
