Foundation Awards $65,250 More in Grants

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded 21 Caritas grants totaling $65,250 to nonprofit and faith-based organizations across South Carolina. This comes just after the Foundation distributed over half a million in Responsive grants.

Caritas grants are for organizations providing outreach services to the poor and marginalized. They are one-year grants designed for organizations with annual budgets of less than $250,000.

Organizations wishing to apply for funding should visit the Foundation’s Web site, for information on the application process. The next Caritas grant application deadline is the first Tuesday in November (November 2).


June 2010 Caritas Grants

A Place For Hope �" ($3,000) Funding for a community wash house with showers, restrooms and washer/dryer facilities. (York County)

Birthright of Charleston
- ($3,000) Funding to provide crib sets and infant car seats to economically disadvantaged mothers. (Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton and Georgetown counties)

Birthright of Georgetown
- ($3,000) Emergency assistance for disadvantaged new mothers and their babies. (Georgetown County)

Carpenters Table Community Outreach Center
- ($3,000) Funding to provide canned fruit to clients of this food pantry in an effort to improve nutritional value of non-perishable meals distributed. (Spartanburg County)

Charleston Area Senior Citizens Services 
- ($5,000) Providing home delivered meals to elderly homebound clients. (Charleston County)

Columbia Oral Health Clinic
- ($2,000) Providing free, state of the art preventative dental services to HIV positive, uninsured and underinsured persons. (Richland, Lexington and Sumter counties)

Dream Center Clinic
-($3,000) A diabetes awareness program for the uninsured. (Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties)

Golden Corner Ministries
- ($3,000) Boxes of brown bag food for low-income senior citizens. (Oconee County)

Greenville Community Foster Parent Association
- ($3,000) Providing much needed new shoes to foster children. (Greenville County)

Lancaster County Partners for Youth
- ($3,000) Funding to provide resources and opportunities for foster children. (Lancaster and York counties)

Macedonia Baptist Church of Ridgeway South Carolin
a - ($2,500) Funding to provide supplemental food to low-income individuals and families. (Fairfield, Kershaw and Richland counties)

Mercy Medicine Clinic
- ($5,000) Providing medical, dental, retinal and pharmacy services to the indigent. (Florence, Dillon and Williamsburg counties)

Midlands Holy Family Fund
- ($3,000) Providing emergency assistance to families in need. (Richland and Barnwell counties)

North Strand Helping Hand
- ($3,000) Funding to assist low-income senior citizens with their heating bills. (Horry County)

NorthStar Christian Center Community Outreach
-($3,000) Providing emergency assistance to those in need. (Richland and Kershaw counties)

Restoration Outreach And Community Development Corporation
- ($3,000) Funding for a food pantry and soup kitchen. (Newberry and Union counties)

Rural Mission
- ($3,000) Home repairs for rural impoverished families. (Charleston County)

St. Christophers Children
- ($3,000) Clothing, diapers and medical services for children of families in crisis. (Georgetown County)

St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church
- ($3,000) Funding to provide food, clothing, blankets, toiletries and food gift cards to those in need. (Florence County)

Unity in the Community Outreach
- ($2,750) Backpacks and school supplies for under-privileged children. (Sumter County)

Vital Aging Of Williamsburg County - ($3,000) Funding for a commercial walk-in freezer. (Williamsburg County)
