Foundation Holds Listening Session in Greenwood
June 1, 2010
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina held its third listening session of the year in Greenwood, South Carolina. On Tuesday, May 25, local homeless families and the working poor, along with community leaders and service providers shared their thoughts and ideas on families who have experienced poverty or food insecurity in the Greenwood community through two separate sessions at the United Center for Community Care.
In the morning, patrons of the Greenwood Soup Kitchen Ministry were invited to share their stories with Foundation representatives. In all 25 visitors were interviewed after their meal.
Twenty eight local community leaders and service providers gathered together in the afternoon. Led by Foundation representatives who served as facilitators, the community members engaged in small table discussions to share successes, failures and future possibilities to remove barriers and assist Greenwood residents in overcoming poverty.
As part of its commitment to reduce poverty in South Carolina, the Sisters of Charity Foundation will continue visiting communities across the state to listen directly to the voices of individuals and families around issues that surround poverty. It is a small step to achieve the Foundation's vision that families in South Carolina have the resources to live out of poverty. The Greenwood Listening Session was the third of several listening sessions the Foundation will hold in select geographic regions across the state.
