Facing Facts 2009 - The Report
A collaborative effort between United Way of the Midlands, Central Carolina Community Foundation, Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, the Central Midlands Council of Governments and Richland and Lexington counties, Facing Facts is analysis of responses from residents and community leaders identifying four central issues of health and human service needs in Richland and Lexington counties. Facing Facts 2009 offers a vision for a common agenda and collaborative efforts to help the neediest residents while creating a better community as a whole.

Healthy SC Initiative
Established by the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997, under this broad banner, 28 separate projects address particular health concerns with an emphasis on vulnerable populations. Each of the component efforts is intended to improve the health and well being of the community.

South Carolina Kids Count
An on-going survey of the status of children and youth in South Carolina, covering the full range of their lives - living conditions, nutrition, health care, education, crime, etc.

Department of Health and Environmental Control
South Carolina's DHEC is one of the state's largest agencies with authority over a range of health care and environmental issues.  Through immunization campaigns, health and nutrition programs and maternal and infant care efforts, DHEC is closely connected with issues involving families and poverty.

SC Hospital Association
The South Carolina Hospital Association is a private, not-for-profit organization made up of some 100 member hospitals and health systems and about 900 personal members associated with our institutional members.  SCHA advocates health care issues on behalf of its members and the communities they serve.

SC Safe Kids
The S.C. SAFE KIDS Coalition is a group of organizations and concerned citizens devoted to reducing the number of preventable injuries.  Affiliated with the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, S.C. SAFE KIDS is dedicated to helping raise public awareness among the general public and policy-makers and assisting in the formation of local SAFE KIDS coalitions and chapters across the Palmetto State.
