The role of the nonprofit leader today and in the foreseeable future will be one of mastering fluidity, complexity and turmoil. The learning curve is steep and the organizational stakes are high. To be successful, leaders will need to develop both technical skills and leadership competencies.

This program will present an opportunity for critical analysis of leadership styles, leadership in a diverse workforce, leadership in conflict management and leadership in decision making and communication.

Nonprofit Leadership Training Certificate Program will offer theory, knowledge and discussions that are intended to help nonprofit leaders grow in their understanding of effective leadership in our society on a personal and professional level. The intention is that the leader’s growth in understanding will increase sensitivity, thus enabling the leader to be proactive in leading in the nonprofit sector.

At the conclusion of this program, through the accomplishment of specific assignments, reading requirements, class lectures and discussions, students should be able to:
  1. Identify the leadership challenges and strategies that will impact the leader, organization, sector, or community over the next five years

  2. Create a model of a core set of leadership competencies and behavioral characteristics that will be needed to overcome the challenges and execute the strategies

  3. Create a tailored leadership development plan that will improve his or her abilities and close the gaps in competencies and ensuring that there are measures of success embedded in the plan
